Cry of Fear may not be the freshest game around, but its scares will definitely make you jump! The game was made in 2013 and it followed a Half Life 1 mod pattern transformed into a classic survival horror game. It’s still going strong with its little fan-base, mainly because of its co-op feature. What more can you want from a game than for it to be free and co-op to allow you to play with friends?
If you decide to try Cry of Fear, expect psychological thriller located in an isolated deserted town where the population is comprised of ugly looking monsters and creatures of terror. In the single player campaign, the player is put in the position of dangerously exploring a Scandinavian city by night, slowly descending into madness. The streets of Fäversholm are just the start of this immersive experience as things will take a cinematically dark turn. It will keep you busy for a good 8 hours, plus it has great replayability since you can get multiple different endings. After you finish the single player campaign, you will have the chance to try the extra campaign! Some famous Youtubers (*cough PewDiePie *cough)are playing it too!
The co-op Cry of Fear experience offers fun and scary adventures for up to 4 players. If you and your friends are not satisfied with the unforgettable campaign, you can try the 12 custom campaigns together too! But first, you have to last through the cinematic opening!
The consensus over this indie Half-Life 1 mod is pretty positive right now, with most of the Steam community adoring the frightening atmosphere and the engaging co-op. Some of the comments on the game’s official page are pretty funny, you should give it a look when you have time.
If I haven’t mentioned this before, Cry of Fear is FREE on Steam! A little horror gem stemming from a much-loved franchise, this little indie game will bring you magnificent scares, a heart condition and depression. Give it a second look on Steam via the widget below:
